The Pursuit of Simplicity

Have you ever felt as if your shoulders were under a heavy rock, or your mind were too weary to function properly? As if your body were ready, but your soul needed to rest? Well, I believe that you have been through this situation before. That is because the things we try to cope with are becoming more and more complex and intertwined with one another with each passing day. There is already a lot of work that is to be fulfilled at every point in our daily lives in today's world; but, due to the developments that have been achieved for the past two decades, especially in science, technology, and education, they require you to put not only some physical effort but also some amount of cognitive work in the process to be able to accomplish them. The advancements throughout human history have undoubtedly brought efficiency, flexibility, and ease of use into many fields; yet, even if something is easy to access, it does not necessarily mean that it is rather basic or simple to grasp. Therefore, it is obvious now that we are really in need of simplicity, but before everything, of the simplicity and clarity of the mind with which we are rarely associated.

It may be the lack of allowance we have been taught that impedes clarity of thought. We cannot imagine something separately from another concept or notion. It is such a deficit strictly embedded in our nature that it is almost impossible to come up with a perspective to consider the most simplistic essence. The way of providing knowledge is even too content-integrated nowadays, and, as it turns out, we cannot escape from complexity. Perhaps, if we could draw a line between what we are required to do in the life we feel we are obliged to live and what we do for ourselves, for the feelings we keep in our soul, there would be seen a lot of capacity and more time that are needed to be filled with joy and serenity in which we turn to our true nature and embrace it as the important figures in our history managed to achieve centuries ago, especially in the Renaissance period in which there were numerous impressions of free thought in works of art, literature, and so on.

The tranquillity that we are looking for should not come with the advancements of the equipment or the devices we use; it should be experienced only through the essential elements present in our character, in our being, and our achievements, without the restraint of the environment we dwell in. People need to create the proper amount of time for free thought and clarity of the mind; it must not be avoided, but they struggle these days because they become weary of the work they do, and they cannot focus on one simple thing in this complex system where there is more than one demanding task.

How could someone find themselves at such ease of mind that they could attain the privilege to overlook those so-called dramatic problems they face and have the smile of acknowledging the simplicity on their faces? I believe it would be odd to think that a 21st-century individual could be completely left out of the “complexity” in such a time of demanding work in that the possibility of its occurrence is highly unlikely; because one just cannot rewind the time to the moment at which both the cognitive and physical multitasking in everyday lives started in the first place and prevent it from happening. However, the importance of simplicity is already emerging behind the clouds by which we are surrounded. It is about the desire to attain oneself, becoming natural in one’s essence, which, if successful, is said to bring the joy and serenity that one needs.

People always consider that their mindset is somewhat troublesome or unbearable. It has become a widely accepted phenomenon. They go through phases of anxiety, depression, and fear. There are vast numbers of cases in which people even deal with worse problems. So, it is certainly not wrong to assume that individuals need to have hope in their lives, as well, to be able to manage their work and to have the bliss of reaching the simplicity of thought. Nevertheless, another question arises: What makes it so difficult that one always feels a never-ending urge to nourish and pursue their dream and hope? It may be the belief we keep inside ourselves that everyone deserves the best and that somehow everybody will reach the comfort to enjoy the beauty life offers. Yet, everything becomes entangled with one another at some point. We embroider our perspective with a lot of colours, but, after a while, some matters or concepts begin to shape in our mind through experience, and we start to contradict our own perception, which leads to a sort of fallacy, the later consequences of which change the function of the brain. In the end, we cannot distinguish between the effects that our own perspectives have on our manner of thinking and understanding. To an unpopular opinion of mine, this situation arises relatively due to the system of industrial expectations of today and the meanings that people attach to worldly matters and subjects. Hope is said to be found only in success or in the steps of pursuing an achievement; however, most people around us are unaware of the fact that it is in the little moments, and it does not only come through happiness; one can encounter failure, yet could still appreciate the outcomes.

People tend to ignore the progression of complexity in their lives so that they can concentrate on their well-being more, but one can see the contrast here. Waiting for something to disappear in its core is impossible and unreasonable according to the laws of physics. Just acknowledging the presence of something intriguing and having the proper ways to cope with it might very well prove efficient, supposing that an individual is busy with daily duties.

The simplicity that we pursue is a huge merit to be attained. It may even be encountered in the most traumatic situations, if one has the concern of not yielding to the demands of those intrusive or malicious thoughts that trigger the complexity in the cognitive processes within the mindset. Hence, it may even be discussed further that people could go against the complexity of their own world and learn certain improvement mechanisms from it.

All in all, individuals might not be able to return to their true nature in theory, but they can somehow create peace in themselves if they are devoted to a simple, yet powerful aim whose main element is the pursuit of simplicity at its heart.
